And finally

I spent most of the day in a snit.  I finally sent out an email last night to the people who haven't bothered to say what they want for Christmas yet.  I got a very snotty email from my sister-in-law saying she doesn't have access to the list, only my brother does.  If I'd given her access she'd have done it the first day.  She's very busy, blah blah blah.  I responded that I had indeed given her access on the first day (I'm sure she just ignored the email) and I sent her another link.  No response.  Then I got an email from my brother, her husband, that I really need to include her because he's just too busy to do these things.

And then they all said they wanted Amazon gift cards.  Took a really long time to make that list.

The other brother who hadn't done it made his list, and his kid who I am supposed to buy for wants a concealed carry holster.  I am wildly opposed to people carrying guns everywhere, and I'm not going to buy it.  So I guess he's getting an Amazon card too.

I'm done with this.  Next year we all pick a charity to donate to, or I'm out.  The rest of my immediate family thinks this is an excellent idea.  I was a little scary today, I was so mad.

Tonight was nice enough that I got over it, though.  Michael's girlfriend's parents invited us over for dinner.  They're lovely people, I enjoy their company.  Joe bitched and moaned all week about it, but he enjoyed it as well.  Politically they fall on the same side we do, so I didn't have to keep kicking him under the table when he tried to talk politics. 

One more week of work, and then I'm going to try to take two weeks off.  We'll see how that goes.  I have a house to clean and presents to wrap and cinnamon rolls to make!

    Gah, people can be so annoying! Happy Effing Holidays! Glad that you asserted yourself and got things done. I bought some Amazon gift cards too, as well as Target ones for my brother and SIL. I also got a bunch of silly gifts for people so that they would have something to open. I hate it when I fall into that mental trap.

Done with 2017

I'm gonna say it.  2017 has been the worst year ever.  Even not counting the president, which has been pretty awful all by itself.  I lost my dad.  I lost the man I considered to be a second father.  I've been dealing with all the drama of Emily's ups and downs, and my mom falling.  We lost the cat, which sent Joe into a tailspin.  And now the dog is sick.  Last Wednesday I went to rub the dog's head and realized there were big golf ball-sized lumps under his chin.  By the next day his front leg and his face had swollen up.  Joe took him to the vet, who promised to call with test results the next day.  Finally today I managed to get the news that it's lymphoma. Last day

What a last day.  Tax season is always stressful, and the last day is always hard, but this one was particularly bad.  In a normal year I would have had things wrapped up on Sunday.  I worked hard all day that day and left feeling happy that I was all caught up.  I had a couple of appointments Monday, no big deal. Monday I came in to a full schedule, mostly procrastinators who knew they owed, waited til the last minute and were mad about everything.  Even some of my own clients, who started months ago, didn't come in to finish until Monday.  They wandered in without an appointment and wanted in depth planning and a nice chat, which would have been fine if they hadn't been piling up in the waiting room. Today I went through my list carefully and sent emails to a half dozen people who hadn't finished yet.  I did a return for a preparer who got the flu and couldn't get caught up.  She promised to pay me but I bet she won't.  I got a letter from someone who saw me l

Corona virus

It's very interesting living a few miles from ground zero.  My nephew attends a school that sent nursing students to the nursing home where there are multiple cases.  And today he found out that one of his professors visited a relative at that same nursing home the day before it broke out there.  That professor is self-quarantining, and my brother's family are staying well away from my mom for a few weeks. I have my usual spring cough and sniffles, it's allergies.  I get it every year.  No big deal.  Except every time I cough, people jump and look at me funny. I went shopping Sunday night, because we were running out of toilet paper.  The toilet paper aisle was bare.  The store looked like it had been stripped by locusts.  People are hoarding toilet paper and water (why water?  Water shouldn't be affected!) in case we have to stay home for awhile.  Even Costco has people posted at the front door letting people know they're out of toilet paper and water before th
