Grocery store

Today I stopped at the grocery store for the first time since this all started.  Emily and Joe have done some shopping, and I always have a good supply of stuff, so I just haven't needed to go until now.

I went during the dinner hour, when it's usually packed.  There were probably one third the number of people I would expect to see at that time of day.  About half the people were wearing masks and gloves.  There was a young man stationed at each door, wiping off the handles of the carts before people took them.  There's plexiglass sheets up in front of the checkers and the Starbucks barista.  There are decals on the floor, directing you which way to go in the aisle (they're narrow enough that the store decided to make them one way only.)  Most annoying, since I always go THIS way in that aisle, and now you must go THAT way.

There was plenty of food.  I didn't check out the toilet paper because I didn't need any, but the cat litter was decimated.  It takes up half an aisle, and there were only a few of one brand left.  Hope the cats like it.  I guess that's the new thing to hoard.

At the self check there were more decals on the floor, showing where to wait to maintain a six foot distance.

Just very strange.  I felt like I'd been away, and when I came back everything was different.  Last time I was at that store the Girl Scouts were selling cookies and the place was packed.  No masks, no gloves.

  1. It's very surreal, isn't it? I miss those easy and innocent days of shopping!

  2. Everything has changed! I wonder if this will all relax in the next year or two.
